‘Gloria, Allies Will Be Massacred at Polls If P125 Bill Is Vetoed!’ — KMP

Jan. 28, 2007

The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) reiterated its all out support for the call of its allied organization Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) for the immediate P125 across the board wage increase because it will have a truly positive impact not just for workers but for the whole Philippine economy as well.

According to Danilo Ka Daning Ramos, secretary general of KMP, by granting the P125 increase in workers wage, their purchasing power will also increase and they can buy more of the basic necessities like rice, other food stuff and clothes, which are primarily produced by us, peasants. By increasing wages of workers the livelihood of peasants will also improve because more people can but more of their farm products.

If Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is really a sound economist as she always brags she should see that the overall effect of a P125 wage increase would overwhelmingly be positive for the majority of the people. Unless she does not know 75% of the Philippine population are peasants and 15% are workers, that is already 90% of the whole population. Gloria should not veto the increase for the sake of a handful of her capitalist financial backers, especially now that it is an election period, said Ramos.

If she does that then her isolation as well as that of her allies would further be aggravated. Her candidates would definitely be massacred at the polls if that happens. She will be named the ultimate capitalist lapdog is she does that and another potent issue would again be hurled at her and her regime, added the peasant leader.

If Gloria vetoes the P125 across the board wage increase, then the peasantry and the workers would attack her and her cohorts at the polls. Glorias doom would come faster is she does this, ended Ramos.

The P125 across the board wage increase have been spearheaded by KMU since 1999 and the support of KMP since then for the campaign had been unflinching. #
