DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A city councilor on Tuesday said that the successful state visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe has put Davao in the global stage.

Speaking at Tuesday’s regular session at the Sangguniang Panglungsod, Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, chairperson of Committee on Tourism and Beautification, said “It is high time that our products and services of Davao will also be known in the world.”

“This week has been a very memorable week not only in our tourism industry but also in our foreign relations,” he pointed out.

He added that the Japanese Prime Minister is looking forward to strengthen the relationship of Japan and the Philippines, citing Abe’s visit to Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku, a Japanese school in the city founded by Japanese descendants.

“In his own words, Prime Minister Abe hopes that the students in the school will bridge Japan and Philippine relationship in the future,” he said.

Alejandre also stated that with the chairmanship of the Philippines to the ASEAN summit, Davao city is also expected to welcome guests in the future who will be participating in future events.

“There are still a lot that we have to improve as a city but as of now, we can see that investment and interest in our city has been gaining. It is best if all citizens and our leaders to help promote our city,” Alejandre said. (davaotoday.com)
