Del Rosario made progressive groups as army’s legitimate targets -Virador

Nov. 09, 2009

DAVAO CITY – A license to kill us. This is the implication of the recent pronouncement of Army’s 1003rd Infantry Brigade Col. Eduardo Del Rosario after accusing new coalition Makabayan as the nominees of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army, said Makabayan Vice President for Mindanao Joel Virador.
Dili na ni bag-o ilang style sa pagbrand sa amoa apan ang epekto ani mao ang pagpadayon sa pagpatay sa among mga miyembro apil na ang mga lider sa mga progresibong grupo (This kind of branding is not new to us; the effect is that the killings among the ranks of the progressive groups will continue),” he said.
Iimplicate una nila dayon pamatyon ang among mga lider ug mga miyembro (First, they implicate us then they murder our leaders and members), he said.

According to Virador, since 2001, the Arroyo and AFP has been hell-bent on implementing Oplan Bantay Laya. Virador noted that, as of last year, there are 927 victims of political killings, 134 of which are members and leaders of Bayan Muna.
Virador, who is also the Bayan Muna bet for first district councilor, stressed that Col. Del Rosario’s attacks are connected with the government’s counter-insurgency campaign dubbed the Oplan Bantay Laya.

They have the intent to neutralize to the point of killing the government’s critics, he said.
Mao nga hangtod karon wala pa’y nasulbad nga kaso sa political killing tungod adunay programa ang panggamhanan nga pahilumon ang iyang mga kritiko. (That is why until now, no cases of political killings have been solved; the government has a program to silence its critics.)

Makabayan, the newly formed coalition of progressive partylists and individuals aims to support nationalist and progressive leaders for the 2010 election.
