DAVAO CITY, Philippines — In a bid to intensify the city’s counter-terrorism measures, Davao City is planning to establish permanent traffic inspection stations in Lasang.

Mayor Sara Duterte disclosed the plan Monday during the recent City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) meeting attended by top officials of the police and military and representatives from the business sector and other groups.

“We will start at the Lasang checkpoint where there is a government property that we can use,” she said.

The permanent traffic stations will feature X-ray scanners and other equipment that will be used to detect contrabands, including drugs and weapons.

For his part, Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan supported this plan, saying it will help the city in its fight against terrorism and drugs.

“This would be high-level and will definitely strengthen our security and counter-terrorism campaign,” he said. (davaotoday.com)
