Philippines: ‘Comelec must account for Mindanao’

The Black & White Movement asks the Comelec – what gives in Mindanao? We are dismayed at the accounts coming out of provinces of Maguindanao, Shariff Kabunsuan, Sulu and Lanao del Sur. What is more appalling is the slowness with which Comelec is responding to the various crises affecting the region. It is a pity that the Comelec doesn’t seem to be doing anything to restore the people’s faith.

Philippines election exec in alleged vote-padding for Kasangga

MANILA — Caloocan BOC chair face life imprisonment over Kasangga vote-padding
Partylist groups Bayan Muna, Anakpawis, Gabriela, Kabataan and Suara
Bangsamoro will file charges tomorrow against the chair of the Board
of Canvassers in Caloocan City in connection with alleged tampering of
votes in the city.

Philippines’s progressive party-lists being edged out of legislative arena

MANILA — Anakpawis Representative and political detainee Crispin Beltran today said that the abduction and ‘salvaging’ or summary execution of members and officials of the progressive party-lists will most likely continue long after the 2007 elections because the incumbent administration is hell-bent on driving out the progressive party-lists from the legislative arena.
