Church leaders from various denominations in this city celebrate the Mindanao Week of Peace with a joint statement calling for an end of hostilities between government and armed revolutionary groups amid the ongoing pandemic and natural calamities.
“As families and friends commemorate the death of Juvy Capion and her two sons, the decision comes as an insult to the family and to all the victims of human rights violations,” said Bayan Muna Partylist Representative Carlos Zarate
But groups, including those in the Ateneo de Davao University, said that revenue-sharing “is not the main issue but rather about empowerment of communities and local leaders”.
Datu Serrano Mambay-an, a Matigsalug leader of purok 4b, Barangay Mangayon said military presence has something to do with the mining operation in the area saying “gigamit jud na nga kompanyaha ang mga military, gibayaran gyud na karon nga panahon sa pag operasyon sa among bukid (the firm uses the military and pays them to operate in our villages).”
