NPAs attack banana plantation in Compostela Valley

DAVAO CITY – Suspected members of the New People’s Army allegedly attacked a banana plantation in Compostela Valley last Saturday evening, said an Army report.

Lieutenant Colonel Eduardo Gubat, spokesperson of the Army’s Eastern Mindanao Command said the NPAs detonated two improvised explosive device (IEDs) at  the bridge near the entrance of the hangar airstrip in Poblacion, Maragusan, Compostela Valley Province at 11:00 pm.

“The company’s security officer reported that the explosion occurred at the bridge leading to the entrance of the hangar airstrip causing minor damage to an aircraft,” said Gubat.

Gubat said no casualty was reported.

Gubat said that Lieutenant General Aurelio Baladad, Eastmincom commander, “has directed concerned military unit commanders in the area to intensify close coordination with LGU officials, local PNP (Philippine National Police) stations and company security officers.”

He said that the Army’s 25th Infantry Battalion immediately launched pursuit operations against the perpetrators.(davaotoday.com)
