Davao-based entrepreneurs are eyeing medical transcription as another potential industry to generate much-needed jobs. If only they can surmount the challenge posed by voice-recognition softeware.

DAVAO CITY — Will medical transcription give hope to the countrys jobless? Yes, according to two entrepreneurs trying to attract students to enroll in a course on medical transcription here.
Defined as a process of typing out on a computer what a doctor dictates to a recorder, medical transcription is considered the second wave of job outsourcing available in the country after the call-center industry, according to officials of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

i really thought that the market of medical transcription here in Davao is high…just found out recently that it has a low market…still wont surpass callcenter market… anybody there who knows where in the Philippines is the best place to practice medical transcription????
guys beware of medical transcription training schools…especially those who are offering jobs after graduation or production houses…i’ve studied this finishing course…and until now the school where i studied still doesnt have their production…i know of some schools in davao who promise the same and….surprise…nailed…hehe…

I am an MT with 1 year experience na. Med trans is not for everybody. Maraming pitfalls yan. I have seen colleagues who are still struggling despite having experience. Maybe it’s because of their limitations in terms of English usage, hearing acuity which is a skill that takes time to develop along with typing skills and some other factors. MT companies prefer to hire those with 6 months to 1 year experience and preferably with allied medical background. You are lucky if you are nonmed and get the job. Once hired, you should maintain accuracy and line counts because that is where the company earns. As a beginner or new grad, they will not pay a starting salary that’s high if you do not meet their standards. Tyaga muna sa mababa. It will take time before you could demand. You also have to have the discipline and the determination to learn to be better every day. Good luck to all of you!
