TAGUM CITY—A graduate from government-ran University of Southeastern Phillippines (Usep) here topped in the August 2014 licensure examination for teachers (LET) in elementary level.
Bayani Niñel Escoton, a graduate of Usep-Apokon campus, topped the teachers’ board exam with a rating of 89.20 percent grade in the elementary level whose result was released yesterday by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
The PRC said 25,301 elementary teachers out of 70,786 examinees (35.74 percent) and 26,767 secondary teachers out of 77,803 examinees (34.40 percent) passed the exam.
A number of 21,649 elementary teacher passers and 23,820 secondary teacher passers are first timers, said PRC.
Also, the University of Southeastern philippines-Tagum is one of the top performing schools in the August 2014 board exam for teachers.
Usep-Tagum got the 9th spot in the elementary level with a passing rate 85.58 percent among other twelve best performing schools with University of Santo Tomas (UST) earned the top spot with with a passing rate of 98.57 percent.
In an interview Tuesday, Usep-Tagum University Chancellor Daniel T. Ugay, Jr, commended Escoton for “bringing another laurel to Usep-Apokon campus for passing the baord exam.”
“We are very proud of him as his achievement speaks also of the quality education that we are giving to our students here. Escoton will be congratulated in a simple ceremony befitting his achievements,” said Ugay.
Ugay also extended his congratulations to the faculty of College of Teacher Education for “giving their best in mentoring the college students.”
“I also attribute this achievement to the facuty of CTE Department for giving their best in teaching our students because training and exposure are critical also to our students’ learning. I hope that Usep will continue to produce best teachers as its legacy being true to its mandate.”
Other top performing schools (Elementary level) in the August 2014 LET with 50 or more examinees and with at least 80 percent passing percentage were: Saint Louis University-94.23%, Xavier University-93.10%, Philippine Normal University-Manila-91.84%,Cebu Technological University-Argao-88.71%, North Luzon Philippines State College- Candon-85.25%,Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute Of Technology-80.77%, Limay Polytechnic College-80.39% and Cebu Normal University (Cebu State College) with a passing rate of 80.16%.
Usep-Apokon is one of the Top 10 schools in the Philippines per Quacquarelli Symonds study in 2014. The university is on a campaign opposing House Bill 4480 which seeks to merge state universities and colleges in Davao del Norte province. (davaotoday.com)
