LTFRB Davao urged to lower fare rates

Jan. 27, 2015

DAVAO CITY – City councilor Bernard Al-ag requested the Land transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to lower the fare rates for public transportation.

During Tuesday’s regular session, Al-ag passed a resolution asking the LTFRB to implement a fare rollback “since the oil prices in the global market has been declining for some time.”

He cited that the average value of diesel from October 20, 2014 to January 26, 2015 is 34.86 pesos. In that period, the lowest price was 31.4 pesos last January 5, 2015 while the highest was 40.25 pesos last October 20, 2014.

“In the consequence to this decline in the global oil prices, a price adjustment on fare rates must also be made. It is not fair to demand the same fare rates from commuters when the prices for fuel have gone down,” Al-ag said during his privilege speech.
