A soldier died and three others were wounded when New People’s Army guerrillas ambushed soldiers of the 71st Infantry Battalion Thursday noon. Col Romeo Brawner, spokesperson of the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) said the army convoy of Lieutenant Colonel Dennis Tanzo, battalion commander, was ambushed at Barangay Anitapan, Mabini, Compostela Valley Province.
The Eastmincom identified the fatality as Corporal Wilson Binalay. The wounded were Cpl Delfin G Agod, Private First Class Jimboy P Apostol and Pfc Ar-jay G Magallanes.
Brawner said a certain Barangay Capt. Anting of Barangay Golden Valley, together with Kagawad Quirino and Calamba of Barangay Anitapan, responded and facilitated the evacuation of the wounded soldiers.
