Migrant workers to commemorate death anniversary of Flor Contemplacion

Mar. 16, 2015

Members of Migrante Sectoral Party held a protest action in commemoration of the 20th death anniversary of Flor Contemplacion who was hanged in Singapore on March 17, 1995 for allegedly murdering another Filipina worker.

Flor Chan, regional coordinator of Migrante in Southern Tagalog, said they will hold a forum-consultation for Overseas Filipino Workers in San Pablo, Batangas.

“President Benigno Aquino III has done nothing significant for the Overseas Filipino Workers’ situation,” Chan said.

“(Pres. Aquino) is blacklisted. Despite of his blabbermouth of economic growth, the OFWs’ situation has only gotten worse with the increasing cases of human rights violations and domestic abuse such as maltreatment, rape and physical abuse, grave threat, illegal detention, emotional abuse and torture,” Chan said.

A regional forum is also slated on March 21 and 22 in Lemery, Batangas where they will call for the protection and promotion of the rights of migrant workers and their families.
