DAVAO CITY – Dozens of former child laborers in mining areas and plantations will gather here in a youth camp in commemoration of the World Day Against Child Labor on Friday.
The youth camp coincides with the launching of the Mindanao-wide Bata Balik-Eskwela network. The event will be held starting 8am at the Redemptorist Pastoral Parish along Bajada.
Gina Molon, the Child Labour Focal Person of the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) said that Davao City has 264 child labourers.
According to a 2011 survey conducted by the National Statistics Office, around 114,000 cases of child labor was recorded in Davao Region.
The Bata Balik-Eskwela project is supported by the European Union (EU) and led by the Ecumenical Institute for Labor Education and Research (EILER).
