DOH denies distribution of expired meds during nat’l deworming day

DAVAO CITY – The Department of Health denies the reports that medicines distributed during the National School Deworming Day were expired.

Reports last week said that about 86 students in Zamboanga were rushed to the hospital after they took Albenazole, the medicine used during the National School Deworming Day (NSDD).

Secretary of Health Janette P. Loreto-Garin clarified that “vomiting, stomach ache, and dizzines are just normal effects after taking the said medicine.”

She added that “all medicines [used] are reviewed by the DOH together with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at World Health Organization (WHO).”

DOH’s NSDD has already been done since 2006 and only this year that the department launched a nationwide school-based deworming “to reach more children.”

The secretary of health adviced the public to “be responsible of the information being disseminated” for “small” details might “create fear” among the majority. (davaotoday.com)
