Jobstreet’s survey on workers’ satisfaction “unbelievable” – group

Sep. 04, 2015

DAVAO CITY – A workers group said they find it difficult to believe that Filipino workers are among the happiest in Asia as seen in the latest Job Satisfaction Report released by JobStreet Philippines.

In a survey conducted by online jobs website JobStreet from June to July, it showed that 70 percent of the 7,586 workers surveyed find themselves “happy” with their jobs, of which 15 percent are “quite happy” and 55 percent are “very happy”.

Kilusang Mayo Uno said the survey result is “difficult to believe.”

In a statement, KMU said that “to depict workers as happy under (current labor) conditions, would be to condone the severe exploitation that they face.”

KMU added that the survey results are “deceiving” to workers.

“Filipino workers are struggling to make ends meet. Employers with the help of the government are pressing down wages, promoting contractual employment, violating trade-union rights, and are wantonly ignoring workplace health and safety standards,” KMU said.

KMU said that they are receiving complaints from their unions, federations, and regional chapters about their working conditions.

“Many workers are trying to form unions, but are being met with illegal retrenchment by employers,” the group said adding that they want JobStreet to disclose how it conducted the survey. (davaotoday.com)
