DAVAO CITY– Macario Gonzaga, assistant regional director of the Land Transportation Office, reported on Monday, April 18 that a total of 101 drivers renewed their licenses during the seminar on road safety by the LTO.
The seminar was held with the participation of the City Council and City Health Region 11 at Jose V. Ferriols Elementary School on Saturday, April 2. Gonzaga said that the renewal of licenses was free.
There were also 360 vehicle users who got student permits on the day of the seminar.
“The LTO personnel noticed that there are a lot of drivers especially the “habal-habal”, motorcycle drivers who don’t have drivers licenses,” Gonzaga said.
Gonzaga explained that most of the “habal-habal” and motorcycle drivers are under-aged, that is why they are not yet qualified to get one.
He said that approximately 600 to 1,000 participants attended the whole-day program, adding that majority of the participants were drivers from Toril district.
“We lectured on road safety, defensive driving and we call on to those constituents particularly the drivers of Toril district,” Gonzaga said.
Gonzaga added that the program is for those drivers who are “lazy” to come during seminars in LTO.
He said that drivers had a free medical certificate since there were doctors present in the program.
Gonzaga announced that as of now, there would be no seminars that will be conducted yet because of the upcoming election.
“There are some politicians who participated in the seminar and we can’t stop them from campaigning, so as of now we decided that we will just return after election,” Gonzaga explained.
He said they will prioritize big barangays in the city. Gonzaga also announced that the LTO is also welcome to hold seminars for the private companies.
“There are a lot of private companies who request us to conduct seminars for them since it is part of their program to train their drivers,” Gonzaga said.(davaotoday.com)
