DAVAO CITY— The Department of Education here held the culminating activity of the National Teachers’ Month at the Ateneo de Davao University on Friday, September 30, honoring those who are in the teaching profession.
Neil Edward Diaz, a member of the technical working group, said the celebration hosted by the DepEd Region 11 gathered more than 5,000 teachers including education officials from other regions as far as Regions 9, 10, 11, 12 and the Caraga Region.
“This activity aims also to to acknowledge and emphasize the crucial role and value of teachers in our society. ,” Diaz, project development officer of DepEd Davao del Norte told Davao Today in an interview.
This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme: “Guro: Kabalikat sa Pagbabago.” The National Teachers’ Month is an occasion to “build the image of teaching as an attractive and fulfilling profession, and to generate widespread support and assistance for teachers.”
“Region XI is a proud host of this year’s National Word Teacher’s Day celebration, and we find it a fortunate avenue to showcase what Region XI particularly the City of Davao has to offer to our guests, the teachers coming from others parts of the county, who will be joining this significant occasion,” DepEd Regional XI Director Alberto T. Escobarte said.
Escobarte said the highlight of the celebration will be the “Teachers Got Talent.” Other lined-up activities include cheer dance competition, games, and raffle draws, among others.
The education official has also lauded the full-support extended by Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio and the Ateneo de Davao University.
“A series of meetings and conferences were held to put together the activity and the participants are assured that the 248 Technical Working Group have placed into priority all safety measures as we have closely coordinated with the Task Force Davao and Davao City’s Central 911,” Escobarte said.
Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones commended teachers’ unwavering commitment to and service in strengthening the community and building the nation by enhancing the learning capabilities and protecting the welfare of learners.
“Being a teacher in itself is already a tremendous job. Teaching with unwavering commitment despite the odds is a true service to the country,” Briones said in a statement. (davaotoday.com)
