DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Davao City Councilor Conrado Baluran, Chair of the Committee on Transportation and Communication, urged for the holding of a public dialogue with taxi drivers who are complaining of price increase of rental fee and calibration.
During the Regular Session of the City Council on Tuesday, April 17, Baluran said in his privileged speech that drivers are also complaining of increased taxi fare.
Taxi drivers claimed that the increase of taxi fare is untimely and unjustifiable, he said.
In order to avert this problem, stakeholders such as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), taxi operators and taxi drivers must attend the public hearing.
Meanwhile, Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, Chairperson of the Committee on Finance, Ways and Means, will prepare a resolution regarding the increase of taxi fare.
Dayanghirang said that while the taxi fare increase was approved in Manila, there was no consultation made in the city.
By the rules, when it comes to utilities like electric power and water, any increase should pass through consultation and public hearing, he said in an interview.
The city council passed a resolution to put on hold the taxi fare increase pending a public consultation on the issue. (davaotoday.com)
