Feb. 26, 2021

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The 84th Araw ng Dabaw celebration will be held online from March 1 to 3 featuring four major activities as the city is still under general community quarantine over the coronavirus pandemic.

The celebration has been moved this year to the actual date of the Araw ng Dabaw which falls on March 1. The City Council has declared March 1, 2021 as a Special Non-Working holiday.

The City Government of Davao announced the activities on the Araw ng Dabaw 2021 Facebook page that Davawenyos and the rest of the public can view online.

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in her interview with Davao City Disaster Radio said Davawenyos can enjoy the festivities despite the absence of street parties, big concerts, and grand parades every year.

“So I hope that people will like their page and follow their page because all the events prepared for our Araw ng Dabaw celebrations are there) and you can enjoy it in the comforts of your home because you know there is quarantine and you know there is a stay home order,” she said.

There will be an online show called Tilaw Dabaw, showcasing Davao City’s cuisine, Hugyaw Dabaw will highlight performances from award-winning Dabawenyos who brought pride to Davao from joining prestigious competitions local and international stage.

Visual artists based or have grown up in Davao will showcase their works in the Obra Dabaw while the Istilo Dabaw will present fashion designs from award-winning local designers that promote the city’s local tradition and cultural heritage.

Apart from the digital activities prepared by the City Tourism Operations Office, only two events will be held face-to-face, the opening ceremony on March 1, 8 pm and Misa ng Pasasalamat but with a limited number of participants allowed owing to strict health protocols.

In the same celebration last year, the City Government also cancelled major events like the Pasiugdang Pagsaulog, Reyna Dabawenya, Ginoong Davao, Sayaw Pinoy, Kalingawan sa Sta. Ana, Hudyaka, Mutya ng Dabaw, Pasidungog, Araw ng Empleyado, Kanta Dabawenyo, Parada Dabawenyo, and Datu Bago Awards. (davaotoday.com)
