MANILA — ?Where is Daniel Smith? This convicted rapist cannot just disappear as he pleases. If he is indeed sick, the public still has the right to question his whereabouts.?
According to Gabriela Women?s Party Rep. Liza Largoza-Maza, Daniel Smith?s group should stop playing games with the Filipino people. ?This is the height of impertinence. He is supposed to be serving his sentence after Philippine courts found him guilty of violating the rights of a young Filipino woman. Yet, his camp maneuvers his stay at the US Embassy, suddenly takes him to a hospital due to some stomachache then refuses to disclose where he is.?
Rep. Maza challenged the Malaca?ang to produce the missing convict immediately. ?Such is why we opposed Smith?s transfer to US Embassy! Now, it is so easy for the US government to cart him off to places, i.e. Okinawa or back to the US, without public intervention. Unless such is Malaca?ang?s idea in the first place, we challenge the regime to produce him.?
The militant legislator pointed out that it is the responsibility of the administration to find Smith immediately. ?Smith?s disregard of his sentence is a continuation of the US government?s disrespect to our national sovereignty. Thus, if the administration has any respect for itself at all, it should not allow Smith and his government to get away with such travesty,? Rep. Maza concluded. ###
