Philippines move towards ratification of international treaty vs. shipment of hazardous wastes

The Philippines is on its way to ratifying an international treaty that would prohibit the shipment of hazardous wastes, including obsolete ships and electronic wastes, from developed countries to poor nations, an official of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said Wednesday, February 26.

Envi group calls on government anew to ban imported wastes for good

Following the pronouncement of an environment official on why the Philippines has yet to ratify an international treaty that prohibits imported garbage from entering the country, environmental group EcoWaste Coalition has called on the government anew to strictly impose a ban on waste importation “without further delay.”
