In an extemporaneous speech that moved the crowd in Butuan, Cesar Montano said that his platform to develop the country-side is simple but effective. It is summed up by his name?C.E.S.A.R. This stands for Cooperative, Entrepreneurship, Support Services, Rural Productivity, and Rural Infrastructure. ?Contrary to my critics claim that I have no agenda,? Montano said, ?my name represents my agenda for country-side development. Pngalan ko and paninindigan ko (my name is my commitment).?

1 Human Rights Now, Tokyo Based international human rights NGO has conducted the investigation on extrajudicial killing and enforced disappearance in the Philippines on 14-21 April, 2007. As Asian friend, Japanese civil society is very concerned the fact that substantial numbers of Filipino people have targeted of extrajudicial killing and enforced disappearance. Human Rights Now shares this very concern and decides to send fact finding mission to the Philippines.

Group Outraged by Beating of Filipina Student in New York Bus

NEW YORK, NY, April 20, 2007 — FIND, Inc. is appalled at the nightmarish event that occurred on March 14, 2007 as a Filipina Catholic-school girl was heavily beaten on a New York City MTA bus and was further ignored by the bus driver who insensitively told her to “Go talk to a priest.” 17-year old Marie Stefanie Martinez was attacked by 13 African American teenagers after stepping onto a B82 bus in Brooklyn. After being taunted, being called a “Chink” and being pushed around, Martinez finally decided to fight back and that is when things took a turn for the worse.

Philippines: ‘A vote for Bayan Muna is a vote against political killings’

Dear kababayan,

The May 14 elections is an opportunity for Filipinos to say NO to
extrajudicial killings. The government must respect and uphold human
rights and civil liberties, including those of critics and activists.
Genuine democracy demands respect for oppositionist and critical
voices.

As of today, 838 civilians have been slain. Among them are 130 members
of Bayan Muna, one of the groups critical of the Arroyo government,
and which champions the Politics of Change vis-a-vis traditional
politics. International and independent probes have pointed at the
Arroyo government and the military for the failure to stop the
violence and for having the motive to kill the activists.
