MANILA — The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) condemned the latest attack on the media by forces out to silence the truth in the country. This time motorcycle riding assailants attacked Delfin ?Sonny? Mallari Jr., a correspondent of the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) and has covered stories of peasants in the area and is close to KMP. According to Danilo ?Ka Daning? Ramos, secretary general of KMP, ?what they did to Sonny was despicable and dastardly, Sonny was just out performing his job as a straight reporter and a very good one at that,?

US Embassy in Philippines Saddened by Death of Peace Corps Volunteer

April 19, 2007

MANILA — The U.S. Embassy is saddened to confirm the death of U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer Julia Campbell, who disappeared on April 8 while hiking in Banaue, Ifugao Province, Northern Luzon. Search parties discovered Ms. Campbell?s body near Barangay Batad, Banaue town this morning. Philippine authorities will make the final pronouncement of cause of death.

Philippines: AFP Denounces Actions of MNLF Renegade Leader

AFP DENOUNCES MALIK?S ACTIONS, BITAN-AG COMPLEX OVERRUN BY AFP TROOPS

HEADQUARTERS WESTERN MINDANAO COMMAND. LTGEN EUGENIO V CEDO AFP, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command denounces the series of attacks by renegade MNLF leader Habier Ustadz Malik and his group launched against military troops in Panamao, Sulu including the Municipal building of Panamao which killed 1 civilian and wounding another. The lawless group began their attack in the evening of April 13, Friday and sustaining their attack against the Marine Company in Luuk and the SOCOM in Talipao in the morning of April 14.
