Mindanao teacher offers tips to avoid text fraud

ILIGAN CITY — To Sahraman Palawan, the registered mail could not have come at a better time. An elementary school teacher from Marawi City, Sahraman is also father and provider to a family of 13 children, with his wife a full-time homemaker. With times getting harder and luxuries becoming practically impossible, he could hardly believe his luck when he received the registered mail which came all the way from Metro Manila. Coming from Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART), the letter was informing him of his good fortune ? Sahraman was the grand prize winner of the SMART Buddy Pabonus at Papremyo, and his brand-new Chevrolet Spark was on its way to the SMART Wireless Center in Iligan City. From there, he and his family could pick up the car and drive it home to nearby Marawi City.

Philippines: Koko hits ‘squid tactics’ of fired Cotabato poll exec

MANILA — Genuine Opposition senatorial candidate Aquilino ?Koko? Pimentel III today accused dismissed South Cotabato election supervisor Lilian Radam of resorting to squid tactics by claiming that he tried to bribe her in connection with the senatorial vote count in the province.

Misuari, a victim of electoral fraud in Sulu?

It appears that not only opposition senatorial candidates and progressive partylist groups were the victims of electoral fraud and violence in the ARMM. Even Nur Misuari, founder and leader of the Moro National Liberation Front which is strongest in Sulu, Jolo, and Tawi-Tawi, was cheated, said his supporters.

Mindanao folk receive free cataract surgery from Philippines, US navies

MANILA — Operating room personnel from the Philippine and United States navies have performed cataract surgery at Basilan General Hospital during a free medical clinic offered by the two militaries to local residents. U.S. and Philippine medical specialists spent two days performing free cataract surgery on patients in the area who could not otherwise afford the procedure.
