Duterte wants child-protection law scrapped

Duterte said teenagers today are different from those in the past and, at 15, he believed a boy already has discernment. He also thought the Juvenile Justice Law, which says children below 15 cannot be held criminally liable, is open to abuse -- a lot of criminals could get away with crime because of this, he said. He called the law myopic and impractical.

Duterte undergoes surgery; Sara takes over

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who was scheduled to undergo surgery last week, said he had no qualms leaving his post because he has complete trust in his daughter. Asked about the possibility of criminals on the loose while he is away, the mayor retorted, "When the cat is away, the tiger takes over," apparently alluding to his daughter.

Angging blasts proposal to scrap juvenile-justice law

We have hoodlums in robes, we have cheats at the highest echelons of the government, we have crooks in Congress, landgrabbers and killers well-entrenched in state machineries and business, and the irony is, despite the laws available to victims, to the poorest among us, these criminals appear decent and held with high regard in our society. We see the young shoplifter, the young molester or the young drug pusher and, alas, we are immediately agitated to have them removed from our sight and from the streets!

Report erring taxi drivers, LTO urges Davaoenos

Following the adverse reports against taxi drivers as mentioned by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte in a city government?s regular television program ?Gikan sa Masa Para sa Masa,? the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has warned taxi drivers to stop their modus operandi of using tampered, non-calibrated or fast-metered meters, including illegal acts of disembarkment of passengers, misconduct and misbehavior against women passengers.
