AFP Cites Minors in Propaganda Offensive vs NPA


The Philippine military seems to be on the propaganda offensive again against the New People’s Army, this time accusing the communist movement of recruiting minors and children. In this news report, the military claims that a 12-year-old member of the NPA was killed in an encounter in New Bataan, Compostela Valley on Saturday. In two earlier press releases, the military said it captured seven NPA guerrillas — all allegedly minors — in Agusan del Sur and Bukidnon. TAGUM CITY—–Three candidates are vying for the gubernatorial seat in the province of Davao del Norte: the incumbent, a presidential secretary, and a doctor municipal mayor .

Aiming a shot at the top executive post of the province are Governor Gelacio P. Gementiza with a stage name as ?Yayong?; Secretary Rodolfo P. del Rosario as ?Dolfo?; and Mayor Jesus M. Gaviola as ?Jess?.

Davao’s ‘Green Vote’ Hopes to Make a Difference

Although the Green Vote campaign recognizes Davao City’s efforts to protect the environment, the groups behind it insist more drastic actions are needed to realize these goals. Good governance, they say, plays a key role in protecting the environment. They blame corruption for much of the environmental destruction.

Davao Elections ’07: Same Faces, Same Names

That, in a nutshell, defines the elections in Davao City less than two months from now. The Dutertes are running virtually unopposed: for the first time ever, the city is faced with the possibility of having a father and his daughter occupying the top posts at City Hall. Incumbent councilors and congressmen, not surprisingly, have an edge over the independents and smaller political parties. Only the congressional race in the third district promises a real contest, with three politicians vying for the House seat.
