Philippines: Journalist released after 10 hours in detention

MANILA — Journalist Jofelle Tesorio, who was ordered jailed by a local judge yesterday morning, was released after almost ten hours in detention.

Tesorio was brought to a women’s detention facility in Camp Karingal in Quezon City shortly after posting a P20,000 bail bond about 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

The military’s victim?

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has renewed its calls for the Philippines government to decriminalize libel, after another journalist was jailed for defamation in a lawsuit issued by a former congressman.

Davao journalists condemn jailing of colleague

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUUJP) Davao Chapter condemns the jailing of Jofelle Tesorio for libel.

Ms Tesorio is former correspondent of the Philippine Daily Inquirer and editor of Bandillo ng Palawan, now with the Bangkok-based Asia News Network.
