DAVAO CITY – The lockdown on city government offices housed in Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) building will be extended to another two weeks until June 13, to contain the spread of COVID-19 which has affected some employees.

The SP building was initially under a one-week lockdown last week as city government employees were subject to swabbing on May 29 to 31.  Forty-four (44) employees tested positive with the coronavirus disease.

“We have extended the lockdown of SP building because we have significantly increased number of cases from the time that we had our mass swabbing.,, Out of the 1,083 swabbing, we were able to yield 44 additional positive patients or individuals. That merit to lockdown the entire building so we can contain the movement and we can contain the spread of the virus among the offices and among the employees,” she said

City Health Office acting head, Dr. Ashley Lopez earlier identified the most cases came from the City Assessor’s Office, City Treasurer’s Office, and the City Civil Registrar’s Office located on the ground floor.

Lopez said “although the positivity rate is quite low, this is already considered a big number.”

Schlosser added that most of the 44 employees were asymptomatic with mild cases and had been admitted to the city’s Temporary Testing and Monitoring Facilities.

Other offices affected by the extended lockdown of the SP building are the City Treasurers, City Assessors Office, Business Bureau, City Civil Registrar, offices of the vice mayor and city councilors.

The city government advised the public to proceed to all district offices for their payments of taxes and other transactions while there are also drop boxes installed in front of the SP building for their documents.

Two regular sessions of the Davao City Council had been postponed due to the lockdown.  Floor Leader said the council was supposed to tackle several important items such as the ordinance on the mandatory scanning of QR codes, deliberation on Davao City Comprehensive Land Use Plan 2013-2022 and the Zoning Ordinance of Davao.

Quitain said that they might hold two sessions in a week to complete their calendar or four regular sessions in a month.
