DAVAO CITY – The City Government awarded rights to only 137 venders to resume their “ukay-ukay” (used clothes) vending along Roxas Avenue here, the designated night market area that was closed last week over alleged violation of city government agreement with them.
But the City Traffic and Transport Management Office said the granting of the rights would still have to wait for the final approval of City Mayor Sara Duterte to reopen the Roxas Avenue for night market operations.
The rights were determined through a drawing of lots on Monday, August 8 at the Davao Recreational Center (Almendras Gym).
There were 614 venders who registered during the meeting with the CTTMO at the Almendras Gym, but only 137 names were drawn.
CTTMO chief Rhodelio Poliquit said those were the number of space “provided for the used clothes vendors along Roxas Avenue.”
He urged the venders “to behave” and not repeat their violations that prompted City Mayor Sara Duterte to order the stoppage of their operations last week.
On August 3, Duterte ordered the clearing of the Roxas Avenue night market due to violations by some venders.

“We will recommend you to the city mayors, [so] help us, do not us put us to shame,” Poliquit told the vendors.
The vendors will still pay for an amount of P15 per day for rent and P300 for electricity use. They were also reminded to maintain the cleanliness surrounding their stalls.
Food, massage therapists, accessory vendors will meet with the CTTMO and names drawn on Tuesday, August 9 in the morning, still at the Davao City Recreation Center. (davaotoday.com)
