DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Korean government has officially opened its Honorary Consulate in Davao, saying the city has huge potential for further growth and increasing exchange between Davao City and Korea in various fields.

In a simple ceremony on Thursday, Korean Ambassador Kim Jae-shin presented to Edgard Ang the letter of commission from the Korean Government, appointing him as the Honorary Consul in Davao.

Kim has asked the newly appointed consul  for his “dedication to bilateral cooperation between Korea and the Philippines, acting as a link between the two countries.”

Ang is a native of Davao and an entrepreneur who runs a variety of businesses, including automotive dealerships and fertilizer trading.

Jerril Santos, Department of Foreign Affairs’ chief of protocol presented then an “Exequatur” on behalf of the Philippine Government.

Also in attendance during the opening ceremony was Executive Director Janet Lopoz of Mindanao Development Authority of which she delivered a congratulatory remark on the opening of the Honorary Consulate.

Earlier, Ambassador Kim together with Consul Ang, paid a courtesy call to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and exchanged views on how to expand and deepen Korea’s cooperation with Davao City as well as the Philippines. (davaotoday.com)
