DAVAO CITY — The new head of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division and commander of the Philippine Army in Davao Region and some areas of Region 12, Major General Reynaldo B. Mapagu, paid a courtesy call to the councilors of Davao during last Tuesday’s session.

Acting vice-mayor councilor Mabel S Acosta, who presided the regular session, allowed Mapagu to address the city council.

Mapagu highlighted the need to work hand-in-hand not only with local leaders but also with all stakeholders, including the people in the communities. He said that everyone has a role in the pursuit of peace and development. “We shall link with all sectors because we know that, through convergence of effort and collective implementation of our programs, we can succeed in our endeavors.”

Mapagu added that, in the conduct of internal security operations, the local government units should perform the lead role while the military plays the supporting role.

Mapagu said his thrusts include ensuring that his men attain the highest level of discipline, continuing advocacy on the observance, promotion, and protection of human rights, and the military’s active participation in peace and development initiatives.

Mapagu said that he owes this commitment and responsibility to the nation particularly the people of Davao City. (PIA)
