DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Malacañang on Sunday ordered the suspension of classes and government work coinciding with the scheduled nationwide strike of transport groups on Monday, Oct. 16.

The Office of the Executive Secretary, in a message sent to the media said, “Classes in all levels, both public and private, and government work, nationwide, will be suspended  for tomorrow.”

Demanding the government to junk its jeepney modernization plan, the Transport of Southern Mindanao for Solidarity, Independence and Nationalism-Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Transmision-Piston) said they will hold a two-day nationwide transport strike starting October 16.

The message from the Palace, however, clarified the suspension will not include Tuesday.
It also said the private sector will not be covered by the suspension.

“As to suspension of govt work, we shall issue the usual memorandum circular,” the Office of the Executive Secretary said.
