The National Youth Day celebration in Davao City, which was organized by the Catholic archdiocese of Davao, ended Saturday evening with colorful presentations and performances by the delegates. More than 7,000 youths from all over the country, including non-Catholics, participated in the four-day event, which was held in Mindanao for the first time. This year’s theme was “Your Word Is a Lamp to My feet, and a Light to My Path.? (davaotoday.com photos by Barry Ohaylan)

Mindanao Nuns Still at It, Condemn ‘Repression’ vs Church Workers

Catholic nuns in Mindanao have not stopped denouncing the police and the Arroyo regime for the “repression” of Church workers. In statements issued last week, nuns from the Missionary of Sisters of Mary, which was the target of the Nov. 1 police raid in Butuan City, and the Religious of the Good Shepherd urged authorities to respect human rights.

Nuns Denounce Police Raid of Butuan Convents

On Nov. 1, the police swooped down on religious convents in Butuan City, supposedly in search of a ranking Communist leader. A Mindanao-based group of nuns has condemned the raids, calling it an ?attack on the church and the people.?
