Philippines unable to stop killings due to Arroyo’s loose control of military

Husband of Suara Leader in Maguindanao Killed

Killing followed harassment of Suara Bangsamoro’s volunteers in Davao del Sur.

DAVAO CITY — The husband of a leader of the Moro partylist group, Suara Bangsamoro, was shot dead this morning by three unidentified men in Pikit town, North Cotabato, the Philippines.

Usman Ali, 40, was shot in the back of his head while at a public market in Pikit, said Suara partylist nominee Amira Lidasan .

SC Trains ?Special Court? Judges Handling Cases of Extrajudicial Killings in Philippines

Thanks to Army, ComVal Remains ‘Valley of Death,’ Karapatan

DAVAO CITY — Compostela Valley Province still bears the name it earned a long time ago for what could only be blamed on the military — the Valley of Death, the human-rights group Karapatan said.

This, the group said, is a result of the continued rule of military brutality and fascism in the area under 1001st Brigade-Philippine Army (PA) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
