Comval gov forms probe team on Monkayo killings

Aug. 13, 2015

DAVAO CITY – Compostela Valley Governor Arturo Uy said he will create a special investigating team and put up a reward to anyone who can lead to the capture of the perpetrators of the recent killings in Monkayo town.

Uy was referring to the killings of Fortunato Pedoy, community affairs development coordinator and acting deputy mayor of the municipal government of Monkayo and a certain Merculito dela Cruz.

Pedoy was killed by still unidentified suspects on August 6, while dela Cruz was killed last May 3.

Uy said that he will take the matter to the Provincial Peace and Order Council and request Police Provincial Director PS/Supt. Ignatius Ferro to lead the investigating team.

He said that the team will be initially composed of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Uy said that he will give the team one month to come up with a result.

He said that he will offer an initial reward of P300,000 each for the cases of Pedoy and Dela Cruz.

He also urged Mayor  Joselito Brillantes Jr to double the amount to show sincerity in solving the cases of the killings in the municipality. He also dared the mayor and Vice Mayor Manuel Brillantes to take a leave of absence during the investigation.

“They are implying that the killing was politically motivated. I suggest that they would take a leave of absence so as not to influence the investigation,” said Uy.(davaotoday.com)
