Day 1: Davao police says Simbang Gabi ‘peaceful’

Dec. 16, 2015

DAVAO CITY — The Davao City Police Office reported that there was no single crime incident during the first misa de gallo (Simbang Gabi) here, and described it as “generally peaceful.”

DCPO spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz said in a press conference on Wednesday that the peaceful first Catholic dawn mass was due to the street deployment of personnel from stations and headquarters as well as augmentation of 150 personnel from the regional headquarters.

She added that “Oplan Sita” and Operation “Kapkap” have been observed during the first day of the traditional Christmas dawn mass.

Meanwhile, Driz also said the bike patrol, the first of its kind in Mindanao, was implemented to address criminality and terrorism especially in crime prone areas where mobile patrol vehicles can not reach.

Driz said that the DCPO is also the first to conduct trainings on bike patrol in Mindanao.

She added that there was an incident where a commuter left her phone in a taxi, but the bike-riding cops were able to recover it and turned it over to the Sta. Ana police station.

“When the area of concern is or where the incident happened, that is where the victim and perpetrator caught will be turned over,” said Driz. (With a report from Mae Love Deseo, Davao Today intern)
