Metro Manila urban poor communities to hold noise barrage vs APEC

DAVAO CITY – A number of urban poor communities and urban poor groups in different cities in Metro Manila will stage a 2-hour long noise barrage to condemn the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation on Wednesday.

Urban poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap said the activity dubbed “Kalampagan Laban sa APEC” (noise barrage against APEC) “will protest the demolitions due to Public-Private Partnership projects.”

The activity will be participated by vendors, scavengers and pedicab drivers.

Kadamay said APEC, as an economic forum, “is behind the chronic unemployment and anti-poor urban development, which causes demolition of communities in the country.”

They also called on the public to condemn the Aquino administration for detaining hundreds of street dwellers, banning street vendors and the non-working holidays for the APEC.

On Thursday, thousands of urban poor under Kadamay will join the big protest multi-sectoral protest in Manila against APEC. (davaotoday.com)
