President scolding of SAF widows called indecent

A group of indigenous peoples reacted over President Benigno Aquino III’s “scolding” of the widows of the 44 slain Special Action Force commandos during a dialogue held last Thursday.

According to reports, in a meeting with the bereaved families last Thursday, one of the families asked why no airstrike was sent to assist the SAF operation, and President Aquino answered, “Do you play computers?”

Asked why there was no reinforcement after 10 hours of fighting, President Aquino reportedly said  “If we suppose you text your friend so that you’d meet at the [Mall of Asia], is it that easy for you to go there immediately?”

“No one in his right mind would treat the SAF widows like President Aquino did,” Piya Macliing Malayao, spokesperson of indigenous peoples’ alliance Kalipunan ng mga Katutubong Mamamayan ng Pilipinas (KAMP) said in a statement Monday.

“What he did was beyond decency. He is inept as a Commander-in-Chief, a failed broker for the peace negotiations, and a callous and indecent leader,” Malayao added.

The group is also urging the families of the slain SAF to join in the call for Aquino’s ouster.
