Aug. 19, 2015

DAVAO CITY – Teachers associations in National Capital Region held a motorcade and protest action today in front of the Department of Budget and Management Central Office calling for the inclusion of salary increase in the 2016 budget appropriation.

In a press release, Alliance of Concerned Teachers – NCR Union President Benjie Valbuena said  the government should implement a salary hike immediately.

There is no other time but now,” Valbuena said. He said that if the government continues to ignore their calls they will launch more protests.

“We are ready to launch our human chain and grand lobbying at the House of Representatives and to have a nationally coordinated sit-down strike 3 on September 8,” said Valbuena.

“Our meager monthly salary of P18,549 for teachers and P9,000 for salary grade 1 for employees [are] inadequate as compared to the Family Living Wage (FLW) of P31,620,” Valbuena said adding that the previous increase on teachers’ pay was in 2012.(davaotoday.com)
