Transport partylist nominee gets death threat

Jan. 24, 2016

DAVAO CITY – George San Mateo, national president of Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston) reportedly received a death threat last Monday (Jan. 18).

San Mateo, who is also the first nominee of Piston Partylist, a sectoral party for drivers and operators running in the elections said the threat came as a text message from an unknown sender.

The said text message informed San Mateo that three leaders of transport groups have paid the texter to kill him.

San Mateo said the threat is a “desperate act to silence Piston which is critical of the government’s plan for jeepney phaseout and other government policies that are detrimental to the drivers and small operators.”

San Mateo added that they consider the threat as an election-related violence. (davaotoday.com)
