TAGUM CITY—Clad in their best dress, teachers coming from public and private schools of the Department of Education in Davao del Norte province were honored during Sunday’s observance of World Teachers Day.
The celebration led by Department of Education feted all the teachers for their hard work, dedication and untiring service in educating the Filipino children.
In her speech, DepEd-Davao Norte Schools Superintendent Josephine L. Fadul, said that such observance is fitting for teachers to be recognized for their hardwork.
“Educating and inspiring children are not an easy task. Teachers are branded as unsung heroes because of their unselfish desire to educate the children. This celebration serves as an avenue to recognize all your efforts as teachers,” said Fadul.
At the Rodolfo del Rosario (RDR) Gymnasium, Sunday’s afternoon celebration of World Teachers Day was attended by 4,000 school teachers, staff and administrators from various school districts in the province.
Public school teacher, Leomar Liboon, 42, said that he is happy for attending the said celebration, saying that “it inspires me more because as a teacher my efforts and services have been recognized.”
Jay Cabal, a 26-year old teacher, lauded the preparation of the activity because of the organized flow of the program. “I commend the preparation of DepEd-Davnor because I felt that I am special today. I hope that all teachers felt special also. This is a day of celebration.”
On Sunday, Education Secretary Armin Luistro, in a statement, challenged the educators for an “educational revolution” which seeks to eliminate illiteracy in the country.
“If all the teachers in the country start to move as one, we will start the biggest revolution in education,” said Luistro, underscoring the great responsibility of every teacher in preparing the Filipino youth to be better equipped for the world.
He added that “the best lesson that a teacher teaches our children especially in the darkest of times is to smile.”
“We hope to give emphasis on your efforts, our dear teachers, all throughout the country in your everyday battle inside and outside the classroom. Each day you stand in front of the students is another day of taking on the challenge of eliminating illiteracy and ignorance among the minds of the Filipino youth,” said Luistro. (davaotoday.com)
