DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Ironman event has evolved into a family event with the Alaska IronKids Triathlon Race held in Azuela Cove last Saturday
As early as six in the morning, around 300 kids started the race through a miniature course, through swimming, biking and racing events.
Clifford Pusing of Olongapo City emerged as champion in the age 13-14 Boys Category, taking the lead in the transition between the bike and running course, with a time of 41 minutes and 24 seconds.
Adrian Dionisio placed second as he capitalized on his early lead in the swimming leg and quick transitions, while the third place went to Irienold Reig, Jr.
For the girls group in the same age category, Moira Erediano, 13, bagged the championship trophy by maintaining a consistent pace in all three sports.
Second placer Marielle Estreba set a new record of 5 minutes 46 seconds in the 400-meter swimming event. Nicole Del Rosario came in third.
In the girl’s 11-12 age group, Asia Araneta, Angel Quidasol and Mikele Jopson notched the first to third place respectively. While in the boys category Earol Belonguil took first, Matthew Hermosa and Mark Grist took second and third respectively.
In the 9-10 age group, a two-second difference separated Connor Hodges from Matthew Dugaduga for second place, while Carron Canas won in this age group.
Chloie Dairo won over both Zurielle Galo (second) and Raiannelle Bacus (third) in this age class in the girls category.
The winners in the 6-8 years old group were Al Bersabal, Peter Del Rosario and Ahmad Ali Alonto for the boys, Eleora Avanzado, Rhexiel Belonguil and Josefa Arenas for the girls.
This competition witnessed the youngest participant in four-year old Izak “Zaky” Cael who finished the course with a smile in his face.
After the IronKids event, families of the participants all joined a Run for a Cause to help the House of Hope, a charity for cancer patients. (davaotoday.com)
