Tourism promo bigger than last year

DAVAO CITY – In an effort to promote the city, the Department of Tourism – Region XI (DoT-XI) and City Tourism Office launched its summer tourism sale program, “Visit Davao Fun Sale (VDSF) 2015,” an offshoot of last year’s Big Davao Fun Sale.

“What you have seen last year was a more central approach, since we are more on the shopping component. This year, it is bigger because we are not only covering one sector, that is the malls. But now, we have various sectors – restaurants, hotels, tourist groups, and organizers,” said DoT-XI Chief Tourism Operations Officer Eden David.

With a whole new scheme of tourism, the DoT hopes to entice both foreign and local tourists to try Davao City as their summer destination.

“What happens is that during school break, people automatically go to Boracay, Palawan, Baguio,” Benjamin Lizada of Restaurant Owners Association of Davao.

Calling it a “total tourist experience”, DoT introduced, a booking portal where anyone can book hotel accommodations and avail of the “island, highland and city tours” and other packages.
VDFS 2015 is a city-wide sale participated by 12 malls and shopping centers, 106 restaurants, and 35 hotels.(
