DAVAO CITY — The City Government of Davao is now coordinating with the private sector to prepare for the Kadayawan Festival to be held third week of August.
In a press briefing on Monday, July 4, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, who is the acting mayor, said he is meeting with private personalities to organize the Kadayawan which is dubbed as the festival of festivals.
Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio, who is on leave until July 22, has also instructed the Vice Mayor to look into the preparations of this year’s thanksgiving celebration.
“Ngayong 1:30 pm may pinatawag akong limang private personalities para tumulong sa pag organisa para sa ating Kadayawan (At 1:30 pm today, I will be meeting with five private personalities to help with the preparations of the Kadayawan),” he said.
The celebration highlights the floral float parade, street-dancing competitions and exhibits that showcase Davao’s artistic, cultural and historical heritage.
The celebration was called as Apo Duwaling in 1986 and was renamed as Kadayawan sa Dabaw in 1988 by then City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
The annual event includes Hudyakaan sa Kadayawan, a three-week long food and beverage market; Lumadnong Gama, a showcase of indigenous people’s crafts, wares, and cuisines; Dayaw Market which showcases Davao’s product; Tunog Mindanaw where Mindanaoan musicians and composers meet for a competition; Hiyas sa Kadayawan, a competition participated by women from eleven ethnic tribes in the City; Indak-indak sa Kadalanan, a street dancing competition; Pahalipay Concert which features local and national artists; and the Pamulak sa Kadayawan floral float parade.
