DAVAO CITY, Philippines – A graduate of the Ateneo de Davao University is among the topnotchers of the latest bar examination.

With a 90.70 percent mark, Camille Remoroza ranked three out of 6,749 other law graduates who took the grueling examination last November.

Remoroza said in a press conference on Thursday, that she was not expecting to top the exam citing that she was not able to finish law school in time as she failed a subject during her sophomore year.

She started reviewing in January last year, 10 months before the exam, by establishing a study routine and said she needed to quit from work as an online writer.

“I had doubts, I just told myself I’ll study this year like I’ve never studied before,” said Remoroza.

Remoroza also disclosed that her father, Rogelio, acted as her “critic” and inspired her to work hard as she journeyed to become a lawyer. Her father also finished law school at the age of 47 but was not able to take the bar due to financial constraint.

Fr. Agustin Nazareno, Ateneo Law School Director for Bar Review, bared that 37 out of 39 first timers while 1 out of 7 repeaters passed the exam.

“So it gave us an overall passing percentage of 82.61%. I think that’s comparable to any Law school performance,” added Fr. Nazareno.

Last year AdDU has produced a topnotcher, Justin Ryan Morilla who ranked fifth with 88.4000 percent mark.

Mark John Simondo of the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City took the top spot with 91.05 percent mark.

Associate Justice Lucas Bersamin announced on Thursday afternoon that a total of 1,724 or 25.5 percent passed, a significant drop compared to the 2016 bar examination with 3,747 or 69.06 percent passing percentage.
