DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Cebu Pacific Air admitted late Sunday evening that its plane from Manila “veered off” to the right side of the Francisco Bangoy International Airport (Davao International Airport) runway upon touch down.

“All 165 passengers have been safely shuttled to the airport terminal and their needs are being taken care of,” the Cebu Pacific statement read.

Amid a heavy downpour, its plane flight 5J 971 reportedly lost control after the runway light shut down while it was negotiating the airstrip at around 7 PM.  As a result, it skidded off to the uncemented portion of the tarmac.

The airline company immediately cancelled its flights: 5J 970 (Davao-Manila), 5J 973/974, 969/972, 979/980 (Manila-Davao-Manila) and 5J 216/210 (Davao-Cagayan de Oro-Cebu).

Cebu Pacific has apologized for the inconvenience the incident has caused.  It assured, though, that guests on the flights it cancelled “will be reaccommodated on the next available flights, and will be provided meals, hotels and transfers as necessary.”  (davaotoday.com)
