DAVAO CITY, Philippines (Second update as of 9:56 pm)- A fire of a still unknown cause razed at least 20 houses and two commercial establishments of a textile and motor parts store starting early morning Tuesday.

Fire Inspector Patricio Brananola, Investigation Chief of the Bureau of Fire Protection Region 11 told Davao Today that as of press time, they are still putting out the fire that started in Purok 3, Barangay Lizada here around 4:00 am Tuesday.

He said the address of the first fire call at around 4:00 am was Purok 3, Lizada street, but the commercial establishments were located in Uyanguren street.

“Up to this moment ongoing ang operation,” Brananola said, adding that investigations are still ongoing as of 5:00 pm to determine the cost of the damage of the fire.

He also said that the fire started at the rear portion of the residential community making it hard for the firefighters to extinguish the fire.

Brananola added that they had to create “openings” to reach the fire source. He said they forcibly created openings on top and sides of the buildings.

“Kinahanglan pa ta mag-initiate og openings para kahit papaano makadirect pa ta og perform sa pag-extinguish,” he said

He said they have deployed five fire trucks with at least seven personnel each. Teams from the Special Rescue Unit and volunteer fire fighters also assisted in putting out the fire a second since Sunday this week.(davaotoday.com)
