DAVAO CITY—The 166-hectare Hijo Industrial Estates that will soon rise in Barangay Madaum in Tagum City is seen to spur the Tagum’s economy.
Dubbed as the “next gateway to ASEAN,” the 166-hectare Hijo Industrial Estates is part of the larger 760-hectare township to be developed by the Hijo Resources Corporation, which broke grounds last June 16. The real estate project is expected to open a floodgate of opportunities for the people of Tagum.
In a statement from the Tagum Information Office dispatch on Wednesday, City Mayor Allan Rellon said with the emergence of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA)-accredited industrial estate “Tagum City will be in the center of industrial development not only in the Philippines but in the ASEAN region, as well.”
Rosanna Tuason-Fores, CEO and President of this home-grown multi-billion company, said that the billion-peso project will certainly provide Tagumenyos employment and economic opportunities.
“We’re hopeful that we will not just increase employment but (also) value creation,” she said. She also emphasized that with the company’s strategic location, the economic growth and industrial development of Davao region will be propelled as it is an ideal gateway for foreign and local exporters and importers alike.
“We operate in a viable and prime location. Everything we do here is complementary to the government’s vision of economic development,” Fores said.
The Tagum City government, meanwhile, will extend support to the development of the industrial estate knowing that this is a boost to the progress of Tagum, according to Rellon. (davaotoday.com)
