DAVAO CITY – A city government official said he would asked City Hall authorities to increase the rent of night market stalls along Roxas Avenue here “to double the income of the city from the rent of these stalls”.
Retired Army Col. Yusop Jimlani, assigned as the chief of the city’s Drainage Manitenance Unit, said the current rent was P25 per area. “That is very cheap, I already passed a recommendation to the City Council that we increase to about double,” said Jimlani.
He said there are 300 stalls along Roxas Avenue.
Jimlani said they collected P2.4 million last year from renters “and still have P600,000 collectibles from persons we have already identified”.
Jimlani said their target last year was P2 million.
Many renters in the area were street vendors whose previous stalls elsewhere in the city were demolished for illegally occupying and blocking sidewalks.(davaotoday.com)
