DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The tourism sector has spurred Davao economy as the number of tourists visited the region breached the two million mark, an official from the National Economic and Development Authority said on Friday.

Speaking at the Kapihan sa PIA on Friday, Maria Lourdes D. Lim, CESO II, acting RDC 11 and NEDA regional director said that from January to September last year, 2,110,210 tourists arrived in Davao region.

“It already passed the two million mark which is higher by 11.4 percent or about 215,790 more visitors,” said Lim, adding that the number of overseas visitors also increased substantially with 176,136 domestic tourists or 55 percent higher than the previous year.

According to Lim, aside from Davao City, the provinces of Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental were also frequented by the tourists, attributing this to the efforts of Department of Tourism, private sector and local government units’ promotional activities.

Apart from tourism, Lim also talked about the region’s crime solution efficiency rate that improved by almost 4 percentage while total crime volume decreased significantly by 32.1 percent.(davaotoday.com)
